Mommy Pleaser

So you've met my Mommy Teaser (A.K.A. Jo), now meet my Mommy Pleaser.  Don't let appearances fool you, mighty things come in small packages.  He can wrestle with the best of them, and insist on running along side of us when we go on family bike rides (he thinks he's too big to hitch a ride, and he keeps up surprisingly well).   But with all that physical toughness, comes a very tender heart.  We learned from a very young age (he's only three now), a little negativity in his direction, can bring him to tears.  During some rough nights, I would try to comfort my tiny nine month old babe by singing (no comments on my singing ability, all mothers sound amazing when singing to their children), "Hush little baby, don't you cry....", at this line he would either start crying, or cry even harder, I soon realized he thought I was scolding him, "Don't you cry....".  It didn't take me too long to find a new comfort song to sing.

I have to admit, I think I might abuse my power over him, maybe just a bit.  One disapproving look in his direction, can almost fix any naughty behavior, and the words "Mommy's mad", stops him dead in his tracks.  I think with the right words he would have handed over his entire trick-or-treating stash to me.  He's so sweet, he loves to hear me praise him, seeking out an approval in all that he does.  We're inseparable, him and I, we've never even spent a night apart, so you can imagine that he's with me for most of my treasure hunting trips.  It was on one such trip that he brought me a great vintage Santa cookie jar.  "Mom, look it's Santa!", my squeal said it all, he knew he had found a new way to make me happy.

He now spends time on each of our treasure trips searching for an object to bring a similar reaction.

My Abe, quite the eye for a good find, and even though I've come home with a few extra Santa objects over the last couple of months, I think we make a good pair.
