Finally a reason to write in my garden journal.... the rain has stopped and we were able to plant the garden. Squash (butternut, crookneck, straight neck), zucchini, cucumbers, broccoli, pumpkins, peas, beans, strawberries (we dug up, pulled out grass, and replanted each one... this better slow the grass from invading), onions, carrots, spinach, lettuce, carrots, and a handful of new pest controlling plants, all found their way into the ground.... now all we do is wait (& now with no rain, water). I realize my cold hardy plants should have been planted months ago.... but better late than never. Those (small) crops are joining the tomatoes, peppers, raspberries, and herbs.... I wonder how long I'll have to wait to see signs of life???
Want to know how I got three hard working helpers in the garden this week...... racing. Jonas finally pestered Monte enough to get a track trimmed into the field (my husband is amazing with a trimmer). We measured it and then did the math, 42 times around is a mile (which they ran the night after we informed them of this).
The agreement was, if mom beat you, you were a hard worker in the garden.... two times around....ready, set, go..... sooooo I'm not bragging or anything but I beat all three (good thing Jo took a fall on our second lap... phew).
I'm glad to see everything else in the garden starting to fill in..... I can thank the rain for that. Hope your gardening is great until next week!
